GOD’s PURPOSE FOR YOUR LIFE
Our lifespan is about seventy years
or even, if by reason of strength, eighty and the additional years come along
with pain and sorrow. (Ps. 90:10). This period relative to eternity is
extremely short and in my opinion, one should be focused on fulfilling God’s
purpose for one’s life?
God has a purpose for your life. You
are not an accident, even if you were born out of wedlock. God told prophet
Jeremiah; ”before I formed you in the womb I knew and approved of you as my
chosen instrument, and before you were
born I separated and set you apart, consecrating you, and I appointed you as a
prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5)
You are God ordained and His purpose for your life is greater than your wishes,
ambition, occupation or even your happiness. Look around and see many things
with a purpose. Have you ever asked yourself, why am I here? What’s the purpose
of living? Where do I go from here?
Jesus said,” I must work the works
of him that sent me while it is day. The night comes when no man can work.”(John
9:4). What did God send you to do on earth? You need to return to the creator
to find out why he created you. It is only in Christ that you discover your
purpose in life. He made you, so he knows why he sent you to earth.
You could be a raving success in
your chosen profession or business and be an absolute failure before your creator. If
Jesus did not do what he was sent to do, would he have been considered a
success by the one that sent him? What if Jeremiah ended up as the king of
Israel, would God have considered him a success? You must locate your purpose
in life.
You were created for God’s pleasure—WORSHIP (Rev.4:11).
Worship simply means bringing pleasure to God. It is our act of ADORATION,
LOVE, DEVOTION, RESPECT, HONOR, and REVERENCE for our Heavenly Father. It is in
fulfilling his purpose for us that we please him. “Whether therefore ye eat or drink, or
whatever you do, do as unto the Lord” (1Cor. 10:31). Every Christian should
worship God in his work. The market place is your pulpit as you are a living
epistle and all around you are reading you. You are the light of the world!
A good tree is known by its fruits.
Life begets life. A Christian begets another Christian through the giving of
the Gospel of Christ. We must continuously
reproduce our kind. Win Souls.
You were made to be a member of God’s
family—FELLOWSHIP (I Cor. 1:9). A life of fellowship with God is one of perfect
joy and peace, seeking to glorify the Lord in every action, plan, and enjoying
consistent communion with him (Psa. 16:11). God’s purpose and intention for us
in this life is to provide for our greatest good, usefulness and joy (I Cor.
2:9).
Beware of covetousness. Do not be sucked in by the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life. The life of a man does not consist of the things he possesses. There is more to life than what we see today. The scripture asks “What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul?”
You were made for serving God—MINISTRY (I Cor. 3:9). It’s not enough to say that you have not forgotten about God… serve Him!

Surely, persecutions
are part of the bargain , but always bear in mind what is written in Rom. 8:28 –
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to
them who are the called according to his purpose.” All those who fulfilled God’s
purpose for their lives had a fair share of troubles. Be encouraged by people
like David.
David dedicated his life to
fulfilling God’s purposes for him while he was alive on earth. God is still
looking for Christians who will live on godly purpose. Consecrate yourself to
do God’s will in your time and generation. That is what the purpose of life is
all about. “Only what is done for Christ will have eternal value!” Will you
live faithfully for God and serve Him in your generation?
Conclusion: Life on earth is just a warm up for eternity. It is here on earth that you determine where you will spend eternity. There is a choice to be made. You must first personally know the God of the Bible who created you then you will discover God’s real purpose for your life. Thereafter, you will enjoy the abundant life here and in eternity.
